Resources in the Library

You will find a wide range of resources in the Library, many of which will relate to your course, but some are for general interest, including fiction.

Books:
We have about 28,000 volumes, mostly available for loan. Use the computer catalogue to find these.

Videos and DVDs:
Many videos and an increasing number of DVDs are available. Use the catalogue to find the video or DVD number and ask a member of staff to retrieve it for you. You may borrow DVDs and videos for 1 week although they can be renewed.

Journals:
We subscribe to about 200 titles, which are listed on the catalogue and in the folders available throughout the Centre. Current copies of each journal are displayed in the Current Journals area. Older copies are filed in the Journal Archive. You may borrow old copies for one day only. In addition to this we have several thousand electronic journals mainly through Infotrac accessed via this website.

Computers:
30 networked computers are available for you to use on a DROP-IN basis, all running Windows software, Internet and with free black and white laser printing. As a student you will be able to access your work everywhere in College. You will need your college card to use a computer in the library.

• Email: access for students is free.

• Printing: students are allocated an allowance of paper per term, across the areas for printing. Additional paper can be purchased at 2p per sheet.

• Colour Printing: is available at 40p per sheet. Please save your work to disc or USB and take it to the Library counter where staff are available to help.

• Texthelp: is available and any student wishing to hear what they have typed can ask for a headset at the IT counter.

• Scanner: is available for use by all students.

It is VITAL when using the Internet that the NETIQUETTE is observed at all times. Use of the internet is monitored by a web security system and any contravening of the Netiquette will result in your log-on number being blocked for internet use.

CDs:
These are available on a one week loan. Use the computer catalogue to find the CD no. and ask at the counter for loan.

CD ROMs:
We have a small collection of CD ROMs in the Library. Please ask at the counter for these. They are for use in the Centre only on specified computers located away from the main IT area. they are listed on the computer catalogue.

Article Collection:
A collection of articles photocopied from journals or books and fully catalogued is stored in the filing cabinet. They are mainly used to support specific teaching modules. Use the Library catalogue to access these. Other articles are available electronically via Infotrac. Ask for an e-journal leaflet at the library counter.

Careers:
The Careers Library is a comprehensive up-to-date collection of resources on jobs and careers with a section on University entrance containing a full set of prospectuses. This is situated near the Library Office. CD-ROMs and other online databases are available to compliment this collection.
